This is the Home of the 12th Virginia Infantry
Company G
Welcome to the new home of the 12th Virginia Infantry, Company G. We are a California based reenacting company portraying soldiers on campaign. As members of the National Civil War Association we proudly reenact as soldiers of the Richmond Grays, 12th Virginia Regiment, Company G to preserve the proud heritage and legacy of those who fought in the war for Southern Independence.
Soldiers of the 12th Virginia take great pride in their "campaign" portrayal as "shock troops" in one of the brigades of General Stonewall Jackson. These men traveled light and were prepared to perform any task put before them.
Formed in 1861, the 12th was over 1,000 soldiers strong. By the time the regiment had reached Antietam in 1862 only 23 men were left to help defend the Sunken Road and delay the Union advance. At Appomattox 196 men surrendered, a large number in comparison to other regiments, a testimony to the spirit of the men and the quality of their leadership.
